2009 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir

The fourth entry in this year’s Formula One season is scheduled to take place with the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir this weekend. After competitors finished up in last week’s events in Shanghai with the Chinese Grand Prix they’ll be heading to the next leg of the 2009 F1 series and a difficult competition at Sakhir.

The Sakhir course is known to F1 fans for its large number of tight corners and demanding speed trap, stationed only a few seconds into the first Sector. Sector 2 is comprised almost entirely of the aforementioned twists and turns, requiring enormous skill in order to navigate while still keeping appropriate momentum for the wide stretches which make up most of Sector 3.

Competitors will have to complete 57 circuits of 5.412 kilometres to finish off the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, a total 308.238 kilometre race distance. The current Formula One record for the Grand Prix in Sakhir is set at 1:30.252, having been established by Michael Schumacher in his historic 2004 racing season.

Events kick off beginning on Friday, April 24th and run through until the race itself concludes on Sunday, April 26th. Contenders will make their way to the track in time for the first two practices on Friday (Practice 1 from 10.00-11.30am and Practice 2 from 2:00-3.30pm) before Saturday provides one more warm-up opportunity (Saturday Practice from 11.00am-noon) and qualifications beginning at 2.00pm. The race itself begins at 3.00pm on Sunday.
