Lucas Glover Wins the 2009 US Open Golf Championship

Congratulations to Lucas Glover on winning the 2009 US Open Golf Championship from Bethpage Black Course in New York.
Lucas Glover said he hoped he would not "downgrade" the US Open title after his unlikely victory elevated him alongside the sport's most illustrious stars.
"I dreamed about it as a kid and pulled it off," said Glover, who came into the tournament ranked 71st in the world.
"It's an honour to be on the trophy with names such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. I hope I don't downgrade it or anything."
Glover fought off a late charge from Phil Mickelson to win his first major.
Pre event favorite, Tiger Woods, finished in sixth on level par after a great last round of 69.

2009 US Open Golf - Day Two Review

Day two at Bethpage saw American Lucas Glover surge into a one shot lead over Ricky Barnes.
Glover was six under overall after 13 holes of his second round when play was halted at 2024 local time (0124 BST) following Thursday's rain delay.
Barnes reached five under after nine, with Sweden's Peter Hanson and first-round leader Mike Weir at four under.
Tiger Woods will start his second round on Saturday 10 shots adrift.
The 14-time major champion completed a first-round 74 on Friday morning after only three hours' play was possible because of heavy rain and waterlogging on Thursday.
"I was right there where I needed to be, and two bad shots and a mud ball later, here we go and I'm at four over par," Woods said.
Looking forward to the Day 3 action from Bethpage.

2009 US Open Golf - Day One Review

The 2009 US Open Golf Championship started yesterday at Bethpage Black Course in New York.
The rain caused havoc and led to the days play being called off after only 3 hours and 16 minutes with the first group only reaching the 11th hole.
This will no doubt lead to a Monday finish for the 2009 US Open.
In the bad conditions, the current lead is shared by Jeff Brehaut, Johan Edfors, Andrew Parr and Ryan Spears, all at one under par.
Tournament favorite, Tiger Woods was one over par after 6 holes.

2009 US Open Golf Championship

Obviously, the favorite for this second Major of the Golfing calendar is Tiger Woods, especially after his historic win in 2008 with his damaged knee.
I am fancying Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington for the win although I will also have a bet on Tiger Woods as he is normally safe money, especially for a top three finish and the odds reflect this.

Tiger Woods Wins the 2008 US Open

Tiger was at one over par and Rocco Mediate was leading by one on level par going down the 18th. Rocco had benefited from three birdies on the bounce as it looked like Woods had it sewn up on the 10th, being ahead by three shots.
Tiger had a birdie chance on both 16 and 17 which he left short so stood on the final tee, he needed to make up the difference on the final hole. A great drive and 3 iron onto the water guarded hole saw Woods on for two, with Rocco Mediate only able to reach the Par 5 18th in three. Tiger had a long putt for eagle which he ran to around 5 foot and Rocco had a putt for the champiosnhip, which he missed. This left Woods a 5 foot putt to take it down to the sudden death play off on the 91st hole. He made it.
On the 91st, which was the 7th hole on the course Woods blasted a drive straight down the middle and Mediate hooked one into the bunker. Mediate then placed his second into the grandstand and Woods shot to around 15 foot. The writing was being written on the wall and this resulted in Rocco Mediate only being able to salvage a bogey with Woods already getting the Par.
Tiger has shown great spirit all week whilst breaking through the pain barrier of his knee after the operation.
The British Open is next, and I am going for three of the four days!

It is that time of the year already and the 2008 Golf US Open is due to start today, Thursday the 12th of June 2008 a the Torre Pines Golf club in the USA.
Being an avid golfing team, all of us at Findabet are looking forward to this great event that always provides a great deal of drama, usually due to the way the courses are prepared. It has been a few months since Trevor Immelman won the US Masters, so this, the second Major of the season is eagerley anticipated.
The US Open also sees the return to competitive golf for World Number one, Tiger Woods after a rest spell to recover from a knee operation. Tiger Woods starts the US Open at 0806 and he is in the same group as Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott. Never before in a major have the three top ranked players all been placed together in one group and this should make for a fantastic viewing spectacle.
