The final race in the 2009 Formula One season is set to take place at the Yas Marina Circuit just outside of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The Yas Marina Circuit is a brand new addition to Formula One and will be only the second Middle Eastern course to be featured in the prestigious motorsports series (aside from Bahrain). The circuit has been newly constructed and hosts a total of twenty corners (a variety of long, tight and straight curves) that stretch through sand dunes and the marina of the manmade island.
Drivers will need to complete 55 laps of 5.554 kilometres each to cover a total distance of 305.470 kilometres. As the venue is only being used for an F1 race for the first time this season there is no best time yet recorded for the new track.
Competitors make their way to the UAE and the final event in the 2009 Formula One season for the weekend of October 30th to November 1st. Friday October 30th will feature a full day of familiarization for the drivers with Practice One scheduled for 10.00-11.30am and Practice Two set for 2.00-3.30pm. Saturday October 31st will host one more practice from 11am to noon before qualifying is carried out from 2.00pm onward. The final race of the competition year kicks off at 3.00pm on Sunday November 1st.
