2009 Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix

The 2009 F1 season continues to heat up as drivers prepare to head to Singapore for the Singtel Singapore Grand Prix set to take place on the weekend of September 25th.

The Singapore track is made up of a series of demanding turns and curves that force drivers to balance speed with careful handling. Sector One begins with a fairly immediate speed trap then brings racers into Sector Two and Three’s nearly continuous sequence of gruelling turns (such as the Stamford Grandstand and the Esplanade Steps Premier).

Competitors will complete a total of 61 laps (of 5.067 kilometres each) throughout the event, driving a total distance of 308.950 kilometres. The current record for the Singtel Singapore Grand Prix course was established by K. Raikkonen during the 2008 season and stands at a time of 1:45.599.

Drivers will head to the Singapore course for a full three days of preparation and racing itself from Friday September 25th to Sunday September 27th. Friday the 25th will see competitors getting familiar with the course through an entire evening of practice (Practice One from 6.00-7.30pm and Practice Two from 9.30-11.00pm) before continuing on with one last unranked trial on Saturday from 7.00-8.00pm. Qualifying occurs at 10.00pm the night before the race itself kicks off the following evening at 8.00pm on Sunday the 27th.
