2009 Formula One Gran Premio de Espana Telefonica in Catalunya
The fifth entry in the 2009 Formula One season is set to take place in Catalunya with the fast approaching F1 Gran Premio de Espana Telefonica. Racers will be headed to Spain a few days ahead of the May 10th race in order to prepare themselves for one of the most challenging courses of the season.
Catalunya is home to the gruelling Gran Premio Formula One track which hosts a large number of sharp turns and a few brief flat-out stretches for racers to gather speed on. Sector One of the circuit is a short race toward a fairly gentle turn before competitors move into Sector Two’s increasingly demanding curves and Three’s zigzagging preamble to the end of each lap.
The Gran Premio de Espana Telefonica course is made up of sixty-six, 4.655 kilometre laps for a total race length of 307.104 kilometres. Competitors hoping to establish a new F1 record will have to compete with K. Raikkonen’s best completion time of 1:21.670, a precedent established in the 2008 season.
Contestants will head to Catalunya and the Gran Premio de Espana Telefonica for May 8th to 10th to prepare for, and ultimately compete within, the race. Friday May 8th hosts two practice rounds (Practice 1 from 10.00-11.30am and Practice 2 from 2-3.30pm) before Saturday’s last trial laps (from 11.00am to noon) and qualifying beginning at 2.00pm. The race itself begins at 2.00pm on Sunday, May 10th.
