The 2009 Formula One season continues on the weekend of April 3rd to 5th with the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix. Racers will travel to Kuala Lumpur for two days of practice before the actual circuit takes place on Sunday at 5pm.
Formula One fans know the Kuala Lumpur course for its single speed trap and tight, end of lap corner. The venue hosts a 5.543 kilometre circuit length and requires fifty-six complete circuits for a total race length of 310.408 km. Friday, April 3rd will see competitors arriving in Malaysia for two rounds of practice (10-11.30am and 2-3.30pm) before moving on to one more practice prior to the qualifying round on Saturday at 5pm. The race itself will begin at 5pm on Sunday. Competitors are beginning to worry about Thursday’s heavy rain fall and mixed weather caused by a varying temperature expected to peak at thirty-two degrees Celsius.
The Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix is the second race of this year’s season, following last week’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Racers will be competing against the lap record of 1:34.223, established five years ago in 2004 by JP Montoya. The disqualification of McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton (who placed fourth in Australia) has been breaking news in the days leading up to the event, a shake-up that definitely makes the proceedings well worth watching.
