Racers are soon to head onward to Monaco for the next entry in the 2009 Formula One season, the Grand Prix de Monaco at Monte Carlo.
The Monte Carlo track is made up of a few sharp turns and a large number of straight sections for racers to pick up speed. Sector 1 begins with a quick straightaway before a tough, right angle turn that opens up again in a straight dash to Sector 2. The second third of the circuit puts contenders through a tunnel before forcing them into a speed trap and the Chicane turn and a few more tight spots leading up to the final stretch.
Sector 3 requires skilled manoeuvring around some tough corners and then moves into the end of the lap. Racers will complete 78 laps of 3.340 kilometre circuit length for a total 260.520 kilometre course length. The fastest time on record for the Grand Prix de Monaco at Monte Carlo is 1:14.439, established by M. Schumacher in his legendary 2004 season.
Events kick off on Thursday, May 21st and conclude on Sunday, May 24th. Thursday will see competitors heading to Monte Carlo for a day of practices (Practice 1 from 10-11.30am and Practice 2 from 2-3.30pm). Qualifying picks up after one day of rest with Saturday hosting 11am to noon practice then placing beginning at 2.00pm. The Grand Prix de Monaco itself begins at 2.00pm on Sunday.
