PokerStars Signs Tennis Pro Rafael Nadal to Sponsorship Deal

PokerStars has just completed an agreement that will now see its brand being championed by one of the most popular sports star in the world. Spanish tennis champion Rafael Nadal is the latest addition to PokerStars line-up of sports ambassadors, having just joined on as a member of Team SportsStars.
The 26 year old Nadal is one of the most notable tennis professionals playing the game today, having won eleven Grand Slam championships, a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics and currently being slated to play in this year’s London Games. Aside from his accomplishments in tennis Nadal also loves playing poker, a passion that informed his decision to sign onto PokerStars’ Team SportsStars. Along with other sports figures (like Fatima Moreira de Melo and Boris Becker), Nadal will be joining in online poker tournaments while helping to promote the game both in his native Spain and abroad through charity events and advertising initiatives.
Rafael Nadal released a statement that described his decision to join Team SportsStars, stating that “I love to compete” and “[am] very happy to be working with PokerStars.” PokerStars’ Chairman, Mark Scheinberg, shared the excitement, describing how his company is “proud to have Rafael as an ambassador for the bran.” Nadal will compete in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London (beginning on Friday, 27th July) and will begin appearing at PokerStars events in the near future.
