Sky Poker’s UK Online Poker Series Finishes, Sees Thew and Williams Win Big

Last week saw the first edition of Sky Poker’s UK Online Poker Series come to a climatic end with the conclusion of its eighth and final event. The tournament series was a major success, not just for its creators but for some of its most talented participants as well.

The UK Online Poker Series ended up handing out more than £200,000 in cash prizes (well above its £140,000 guaranteed prize pool) to the competitors playing in its line-up of eight events. One of the biggest wins was awarded to Julian Thew, one of Sky Poker’s sponsored professionals and one who has been making waves through his performance at poker tournaments in recent months. Thew finished seventh in the UK Online Poker Series’ main event and first place at the series’ leaderboard competition. The other major winner was James ‘LIAMESL’ Williams won the main event and earned a staggering £15,714. In all, the UK Online Poker Series paid out £218,170 across its participants.

Sky Poker was thrilled by the popularity of its first UK Online Poker Series and announced plans for a second edition in 2012 as well as a miniature version scheduled to take place sometime in December of this year. Sky Poker’s Dave Bland told press that the UK Online Poker Series’ success “was really heart-warming for all of the people involved, both business and customer alike”, adding that the company “would like to pass on our congratulations to all of the players who cashed.”
